The world’s population has more than tripled to seven billion since Ted Turner was born 73 years ago. He believes it must be stabilized at near two billion, or “we’re just going to have more and more catastrophes.”
If we implemented Ted Turners method in 2008 we would be better off in every metric. Stabilize the population and less carbon emissions, low cost housing for all with higher wages. What we are about to endure with the ongoing middle east crisis will be much harder with our population overshoot. David Attenborough has been singing from the same hymn sheet.

There are some reasons for thinking that will happen almost inevitably. “But it is very alarming at the rate we’re going, and although people will say, ‘In the long run, we are going to stabilize’, they’re going to stabilize – as far as I can see – at a rather higher level than the Earth can really accommodate.”

Ted Turner proposes a universal one child policy to stabilize the world population to 2 billion. With this we will have less poverty, less hunger, less pandemics, more housing at a reasonable price, full employment, more biodiversity, less deforestation and a greater chance at tackling climate change.
